Random Stuff for the Week of 9/9-9/15

* Mark Dever, along with Paul Alexander, have a new and highly recommended book called The Deliberate Church: Building Your Ministry on the Gospel coming out this Monday (September 12). A number of highly reputable people have commented on it already, and Justin Taylor has provided other promo's as well. Tim Challies has also written a preview you can check out. Also, you can read the foreword by D.A. Carson as well as the table of contents. In the day where churches are turned into research labs for pragmatism, it is refreshing to see and read of leaders who value high ecclesiology and healthy body life. * Tim Challies has provided some great info on the Southern Baptist response to Hurricane Katrina via the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and disaster-relief teams. Obviously, news will not cover the work of NAMB, and you will not get on mainstream media or cable news. Just another reason why blogs are worth your time. * Tom Ascol and others have brought to the public yet another star in the SBC who has attacked the doctrines of grace. Jack Graham, former president of the SBC and pastor of Prestenwood Baptist Church in Prestenwood, Texas, attacks specifically the doctrine of election, probably getting cues from Johnny Hunt from this past summer's convention. Ascol has provided a two-part response (part I and part II) to Jack Graham, of which I encourage you to read. To hear Graham's sermon, "The Truth About Grace", click here. It is important that we "test everything" and measure the words of man with the Word of God. * Jimmy Sizemore has a new product he is marketing in our age of Christian novelty. It is called I Can't Believe It's Not Biblical. In our age where truth is falsified, undermined, and ignored, this could be handy. That's all for this week. Hope you have a great weekend. I have many posts on the docket for the next couple of weeks. I will try to post early in the morning and possibly later in the day.
