Mark Dever on the Challenge of Pragmatism
Mark Dever has written an excellent post at the T4G blog recently, and I encourage you to check it out. Here are my two favorite lines from his post: "The gospel becomes more and more assumed and less and less articulated." "While this is not in itself a complicated theological attack on the gospel, it acts in a complicated, multi-layered, subtle and unintentional way to degrade churches which are, in turn to proclaim, exemplify, define and defend the gospel. " His post is spot on (has anyone realize that "post" an "spot" have the same four letters? Sorry, just a random moment). It reminds me of last years crusade for One Million More which was just what the SBC did not need. We already have over 12 million we can't find, baptizing practically anyone we can get to pray a prayer or walk down the aisle, and filling our pews with unregenerate church members with false assurance. What do we need? A recovery of the gospel - defined and defended. That's what we need.
